Co-Director Appointed for The Hong Kong Jockey Club Global Health Institute
10 June 2025
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Global Health Institute (HKJCGHI) is pleased to announce the recent appointment of Professor Ravi Gupta, Hong Kong Jockey Club Professor of Global Health at the University of Cambridge (UCAM), as one of its Co-Directors.
The Institute’s fellow Co-Directors, Professor Florian Marks, Deputy Director General of IVI’s Epidemiology, Public Health and Impact (EPIC) unit of International Vaccine Institute (IVI), and Professor Leo Poon, Chair Professor of Public Health Virology at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), warmly welcome Professor Gupta to the leadership team.
A globally recognised expert in infectious diseases and molecular virology, Professor Gupta’s research focuses on molecular virology and the study of immunity to viruses such as HIV and SARS-CoV-2. His fellow Co-Directors bring equally distinguished expertise: Professor Marks has led large-scale epidemiological studies across Africa and Asia, with a focus on vaccine-preventable diseases and antimicrobial resistance, while Professor Poon, a world-renowned virologist, has made seminal contributions to the understanding of emerging viruses, including SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2.
Together, Professors Gupta, Marks, and Poon bring a unique blend of expertise in virology, epidemiology, and immunology—reflecting the strength of the partnership between IVI, UCAM and HKU. Their collective leadership will shape HKJCGHI’s research agenda, foster global collaboration, and translate scientific breakthroughs into real-world health solutions.
